Blackfoot Abalone is called by its indigenous Maori name, Paua. This is the largest abalone and only found in New Zealand seawaters. Since New Zealand was first settled by the Maori it has been a valued treasure and delicacy for both its sweet meat and colourful shell.
Our Ikana New Zealand Wild catch Paua is harvested in the Malborough Sounds and managed by government strict quotas. Our supply partner Saavid Diving Ltd, owned and operated by the Baker Family, are a second generation family company and their divers can spend up to eight hours a day in freezing waters free diving for the wild catch paua. They are the best in our industry for optimum care and transport techniques to maintain the live paua in premium condition for live export.
